The udon is simply delicious. It's chewy, smooth, and satisfying. If it were closer to home, I'd go there twice a week. The chicken tempura comes on a separate plate, crispy and juicy, and it's delicious. The turnover rate is fast, so you can eat quickly and without complaint.
I visited for lunch on a weekday. I don't remember the exact name of the dish, but it was a chicken tempura and sudachi (a type of citrus fruit) udon. The udon was delicious. It had a good texture and went down smoothly. I ate it with the sauce provided on the table. I think it's better to put on a generous amount of sauce. It's a standing-only restaurant, so you eat quickly and leave quickly.
I walked into what I thought was an old-fashioned udon shop, but it turned out to be the popular "Oniyanma." You buy your ticket outside and pick up your order at the counter. The cramped space makes it a challenge to get water or clear your dishes, but for ¥350, you get a delicious bowl of udon, so it's worth it. The broth is flavorful with a fish-based dashi, and the noodles have a nice chewiness. It's consistently good. You can customize your udon with the tempura scraps and ginger on the table.
Sunday morning breakfast I was looking for a soba noodle shop, but everything was closed. Finally, I found "Oniyanma." I ordered the deluxe cold soba with meat, chopped fried tofu, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura (sweet potato), and chicken tempura, all served with grated radish. The noodles were firm, as you would expect from a shop that boasts its Sanuki-style soba. It was a better value for the price than [Name of another soba shop]. I will definitely visit again.
Payment is cash only. I couldn't tell the difference between this place and Hanamaru Udon, maybe my taste buds are just off... But the chicken tempura here was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned with pepper, so good! You'd be missing out if you didn't order it. The price is very attractive, especially considering how much lunch costs around here these days.
