Located a 3-minute walk from Ningyocho Station on the subway, 'Momofuku' is a long-established yakitori restaurant tucked away in a backstreet of Ningyocho 2-chome. I ordered the 'Momofuku Tori-jyu' (chicken bento box) for ¥1,200. The 'Momofuku Tori-jyu' The bento box is beautifully arranged with yakitori, tsukune (chicken meatballs), sasami (chicken breast) with wasabi, minced chicken, and shishito peppers. Both the yakitori and tsukune are slowly grilled over binchotan charcoal, bringing out the natural sweetness and umami of the ingredients. It's simply delicious. I thought the spicy sauce might be a bit light, but it's just the right amount to enhance the chicken's flavor. The minced chicken was especially delicious 😋
The interior is beautiful, and it has a homey atmosphere, perhaps because it's a family-run business. The quality of each dish in the course was high, and I was deeply impressed.
Momo Fuku, a Japanese sake and yakitori restaurant located in Ningyocho. The restaurant is tucked away in a charming alleyway, housed in a renovated traditional Japanese house. When I sat at the counter, I was asked about the size of my rice portion. I opted for the regular size. The lunch menu features only one option: the Momo Fuku Tori Jyu (chicken and rice bowl) for 1000 yen. There's no need to order anything else. It comes with pickled vegetables and chicken soup. I watched as the skewers were grilled over binchotan charcoal right in front of me, which made my stomach rumble with anticipation. There seemed to be seating on the second floor, and I saw dishes being transported up by a lift. Soon, my meal arrived on a tray. The firm rice was topped with fluffy chicken soboro (shredded chicken). There were three types of skewers: negima (chicken and green onion), sasami (chicken breast), and tsukune (chicken meatballs), along with shishito peppers. Each skewer was carefully grilled, resulting in perfect charring. The chef also lightly misted the skewers with water before sprinkling them with salt, which added another layer of flavor. Overall, the chicken and rice bowl was elegant and delicious. It was definitely worth the 1000 yen. It's no wonder the restaurant was packed before noon. I'm looking forward to trying their lunch again, and I'm also curious about their dinner menu.
The lunch menu features only one option: a chicken bowl. Takeout is available. The chicken bowl offers a variety of flavors, including minced chicken, chicken meatballs, chicken breast, chicken skewers, and green peppers. It comes with pickles and chicken soup. The seasoning is light and delicate. You can add chili pepper or sansho pepper from the table to your liking. I was lucky enough to get a seat right in front of the grill, which is the best seat in the house. The aroma of charcoal fills the air. There are counter seats on the first floor and table seats on the second floor. The restaurant was already full when it opened at 11:30 am. It seems to be very popular. The background music was a mellow, old-school rock ballad kind of vibe. Cash only.
