Tucked away on a narrow alley that you might easily miss, this restaurant is a hidden gem. The interior has a charming, almost secret-like atmosphere that would surely impress any woman you bring along. From the counter seats on the first floor, you can witness the meticulous craftsmanship firsthand. The detailed process of preparing the batter and the skillful use of two different oils for frying are truly a sight to behold. The loin cut (150g, ¥2145) is served with a choice of sauce, pickled plum salt, or wasabi. Even the cabbage dressing is a unique and delicious creation. The tonkatsu itself is incredibly light and fluffy, with tender meat that melts in your mouth. This is some seriously good tonkatsu. The restaurant is often frequented by solo diners. While you might be able to walk in if there's an empty table, it's probably best to make a reservation, especially considering the popularity among foreign tourists. The food, atmosphere, and service are all top-notch.
I visited around 1:30 PM on a weekday and there was no wait. I was seated at the counter, but it seems there's a second floor as well. I ordered the following: - Loin (150g) - Croquette (Soy Sauce) - Rice - Miso Soup The meat is prepared after you order. Wow, it looks bigger than I expected! (laughs) The way they coat the meat in batter is so skillful, it's fun to watch. The bread crumbs are large and fluffy. The silence of the restaurant, without any music, is filled with the gentle sound of the tonkatsu frying, creating a pleasant atmosphere. The rhythmic way they cut the tonkatsu with a knife is also beautiful. You can choose the size of the tonkatsu from 110g to 250g, and I went with 150g. It comes with sauce, plum salt, wasabi, and pickled vegetables. The crispy, light batter complements the thick, flavorful meat. I love the miso dressing for the cabbage! The rice is cooked to a firm texture, which I prefer. The miso soup has two clams in it! You can choose between salt or soy sauce for the croquette. Salt is simple, allowing you to savor the potato flavor. Soy sauce is more like a meat and potato stew. I love meat and potato stew, so I went with soy sauce. Wow! It really does taste like meat and potato stew! It's a sweet and gentle flavor. There was a couple with a baby, and the baby was fussing a bit. The owner said, "It's okay if the baby cries." It was so kind of him. He was watching the baby the whole time while he was frying the tonkatsu. He must really love kids. It made me feel warm and fuzzy! And the food was delicious! I'll definitely go back!
Katsugō Ningyōchō Roll Cutlet 150g Set 2,145 yen Single Croquette with Salt 275 yen Rice & Pickles 330 yen Miso Soup 275 yen Visited around noon on Saturday, no wait to enter. The establishment is tucked away in a back alley, with a small lantern bearing the name "Katsugō" shining brightly, giving it the feel of a hidden gem. The dimly lit interior features a counter with lighting focused on each seat, creating an atmosphere of elegance that complements the exterior. The ratio of fat to meat is 4:6, yet the meal feels remarkably light after finishing, leaving you wanting more. The fat is sweet and melts in your mouth. Each breadcrumb in the coating stands out, creating a symphony of textures with the juicy, tender meat and the glistening fat. The table is equipped with tonkatsu sauce, umeboshi salt, real wasabi, mustard, and a unique addition: real wasabi. I was told to dissolve it in soy sauce, which I had never tried before. The lightness I felt after finishing the meal must be attributed to the subtle influence of the wasabi soy sauce! The croquette comes with a choice of salt or soy sauce, and I opted for salt. The sweet, chunky potato pieces are infused with the savory flavor of pork mince, while the crispy coating provides a delightful textural contrast. The potato and mince take center stage, while the coating plays a supporting role. The soup is a miso soup with a distinct clam flavor. Payment is accepted in cash or by credit card.

Tucked away in a hidden location, it might be a bit tricky to find if you're unfamiliar with the area. But once you step inside, you'll be amazed by the charming atmosphere. The menu was extensive, but I opted for the "Three-Color Beauty" set, featuring shrimp tempura, croquettes, and cutlet. It was delicious, and I enjoyed trying it with both sauce and salt. I arrived just as lunch time was ending, but the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. I sat at the counter and watched the master chef fry up my meal, which made for a truly satisfying experience. I can't wait to go back and try something new!
