It seems the name is pronounced "Katsu-kichi." The tonkatsu, made with carefully selected domestic pork, is deep-fried in light oil for a long time, resulting in a crispy, standing crust and a tender, juicy pork inside. I had the lunch menu's "Roast Pork Cutlet Set" (¥2,800 including tax). Besides the roast pork cutlet, the special shrimp dumpling cutlet was also delicious, with a springy texture and a special tartar sauce. The sweet corn and potato croquettes were also excellent, with a perfect texture. You can choose between white rice and rice with green shiso leaves. The soup is a red miso soup with a rich flavor. Rice, miso soup, cabbage, and pickles are all refillable. (I believe the bean sprout salad and turnip pickles are homemade, and they were delicious.) Before the meal, they serve cold barley tea, and after the meal, they serve warm green tea, which cleanses the palate. The interior is spacious and has a folk art style, and the dishes are also folk art style, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. There may be a line, but it's definitely worth the wait!
I was craving tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) and decided to visit this place for the first time. I was torn between the loin and the fillet, but ultimately went with the premium fillet (150g). I also ordered a large, head-on shrimp fry on the side. Both were incredibly satisfying and delicious. The cutlet was fried slowly and carefully, with a thin breadcrumb coating that didn't leave me feeling heavy or greasy. I enjoyed it with salt first, then regular sauce, and finally a spicy sauce. The appetizers were also excellent and paired well with the drinks. I had a beer and two or three premium highballs, and the bill came out to around 8,000 yen. I thought it was a reasonable price. The interior was retro and charming, almost making me forget I was in Takashimaya. The occasional chime of the grandfather clock added to the ambiance. Next time, I'll try the loin cutlet!
I had the breaded pork cutlet set meal. I also ordered a menchi katsu (breaded minced meat cutlet) on the side. The menchi katsu (around ¥440) was shaped like a rice ball and was surprisingly small. The taste was pretty average for the price. The breaded pork cutlet was a long cutlet that was cut into four pieces for easy eating. It was so tender! 👍 I tried it with salt, sauce, and extra spicy sauce, and they all went well, but the salt was simple and seemed to be the best. The cabbage and rice were free for refills, but the miso soup was not… 😅 The miso soup was red miso and wasn't hot, it was actually kind of cold. It had tofu and nameko mushrooms in it. It was pretty average for the price, but it was delicious. Thank you for the meal.
I was drawn in by a sign advertising "Cold Katsudon" (a cold breaded pork cutlet bowl), so I decided to give it a try. But after sitting down and taking a closer look at the menu, I realized that there was no such thing as a cold Katsudon. In the end, I ordered the Loin Cutlet Set, and my companion ordered the Fillet Cutlet Set (not pictured). We also each added a "Baby Clam and Asparagus Cream Croquette." We had the option of white rice or shiso rice, and we both chose shiso rice. This time, unlike my previous visit, the breading on the pork cutlet was soggy and peeled off easily when I picked it up with my chopsticks, which was a bit disappointing. The miso soup with seaweed also lacked a strong broth flavor. The cabbage, pickles, and rice are all refillable. The rice was delicious, so I think it's a good deal for those who can eat a lot of cabbage and pickles (laughs).
The price was a bit steep for tonkatsu, but I figured it was to be expected since it's in Nihonbashi... I went in anyway and was satisfied with the deliciousness. I ordered the 120g hirekatsu set. The cutlet, with the meat left in a long shape, was served in six pieces. Peeking at the cross-section, the meat juices were overflowing, and with a single bite, it was incredibly juicy. The juiciness is possible thanks to the low-temperature, long-time cooking plus the residual heat method. It's truly delicious. Being able to choose green shiso rice and having green tea after the meal was also appreciated. It's also nice that they ask about allergies at the beginning. I recommend this restaurant.
