I met up with a junior colleague from my previous company after more than a decade, and we're practically friends now. Since it was a long time since we last saw each other, I wanted to treat him to something nice, so I made a reservation here. This was my first time at a traditional Japanese restaurant, a 'ryotei' or 'kaiseki' establishment, and I was impressed by the refined atmosphere and delicious food. It's definitely an adult-only place, as they don't even have cola or juice for soft drinks, so it's not suitable for children. The first dish was sea urchin with horse manure and long yam jelly, which was delicious! The sashimi was squid and bonito, served with salt sauce and kelp soy sauce jelly. The salt sauce was amazing! The bonito was incredibly fresh, with no fishy smell at all, and it was delicious even without any condiments. Then came the soup, featuring Hokkaido hairy crab, corn dumplings, and water shield. The broth was delicate and refined. Next up was the 'hassun' (eight-course appetizer), which included deep-fried baby smelt, 'mehikari' (a type of fish), braised conger eel jelly, mozuku seaweed, octopus with zucchini, and 'kaki no ha zushi' (persimmon leaf sushi) with mackerel from Yamaguchi Prefecture. Everything was delicious, but the octopus was particularly outstanding. Then came okra, steamed abalone with liver sauce jelly. I love abalone, so this was amazing! The 'hamo' (pike conger) shabu-shabu was perfect, and the charcoal-grilled white sea bream from Aichi Prefecture was also delicious. Even the accompanying tomato was tasty! For the main course, we had 'yumepirika' rice, pickles, chirimen sansho (tiny dried sardines with pepper), Yamagata beef simmered in soy sauce, served with a poached egg, and a bowl of 'nameko' mushroom soup. Each guest was served their own small pot of freshly cooked rice, which looked incredibly delicious! The balance between the rice and the side dishes was a bit off, but all the pickles were delicious! The Yamagata beef was also excellent, and even though I was trying to limit my intake, I couldn't resist having seconds! It was the first time I'd had such delicious white rice in a long time. It really made me appreciate how good rice can be. Finally, we finished with blueberry mochi, water jelly, and green tea. It was all incredibly delicious! They even packed the leftover rice into onigiri (rice balls) for me to take home, which was so kind! I'm completely smitten with this place. I usually eat pretty simple food, but it's nice to have a refined meal like this every now and then. It was truly a delicious experience. Thank you for the wonderful meal! This was my first time at a 'kaiseki' restaurant, so I'm giving it four stars for now, but it's definitely worthy of five stars.
A delicious Japanese restaurant located in Roppongi Hills. They serve very carefully prepared dishes. It feels like they gather seasonal ingredients from all over Japan and cook them with care. You can tell they put a lot of time and effort into their food. The price is also quite high, but the space has a non-everyday, atmospheric feel.
It was a bit far from the station, so I took a taxi. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with its subdued lighting. It's a hidden gem, perfect for a date. The refined Japanese cuisine, made with ingredients sourced from select producers, was absolutely delicious. The flavors made me want to come back for more. The fruit mochi served at the end was a strawberry mochi. The freshly made mochi and the fresh strawberries were a perfect match, melting in my mouth. ☺️ The fruit mochi filling changes depending on the season and day. Everyone working at the restaurant had a lovely smile. I definitely want to go back.
Hidden gem in Roppongi serving high-quality Japanese cuisine and wine! Located a 7-minute walk from Roppongi Station, I visited "Charyo Miyazaka," a BRONZE AWARD winner in the "100 Famous Japanese Restaurants." I made a reservation for 7 PM on a weekday. The entrance to the restaurant is a wooden sliding door, but it's actually an automatic door. The interior has a retro Japanese modern feel, which builds anticipation for the meal to come. The first appetizer was visually appealing, with sea urchin and Kamo eggplant that were simply delicious! Delicious sashimi, abalone simmered in broth, and then a vibrant assortment of eight small dishes arrived. The deep-fried young sweetfish was flavorful and delicious. The corn cream soup served as a palate cleanser was also incredibly tasty. The seasonal simmered dish featured conger eel from Awaji Island, and the grilled hairtail was served next, followed by the signature earthenware pot rice. The rice was "Yumepirika" variety, with a firm texture and delicious flavor. The pickles and sukiyaki were perfect accompaniments to the rice. I enjoyed the entire meal. 【Today's Menu】 ① Appetizer - Kamo eggplant, sea urchin, grated cucumber ② Sashimi - Bonito (Gozenzaki) ③ Simmered Dish - Sesame tofu, abalone (Onahama), okahijiki seaweed ④ Eight Small Dishes - Deep-fried young sweetfish (Tenryu River), braised conger eel, etc. ⑤ Corn (Yuki no Yojo) Cream Soup ⑥ Seasonal Simmered Dish - Conger eel from Awaji Island, perilla leaf sauce ⑦ Grilled Dish - Hairtail (Odawara) ⑧ Signature Earthenware Pot Rice - Sukiyaki, pickles, red miso soup ⑨ Dessert and Green Tea - Grape (Higashi Shizuku) Daifuku
