A branch of "Motsuyaki Daitōryō," a renowned "akachōchin" (red lantern) establishment in Ueno. I've been a regular customer since my university days, visiting about once every six months. I'm always satisfied. The skewer menu is mainly 90 yen per skewer. The famous "motsu nikomi" (stewed offal) is consistently delicious. The "hoppy set" is 450 yen, and refills are 250 yen. I had two refills, making it three drinks for 950 yen. The cost performance is still excellent. Personally, I recommend the "hatsu" (heart) and "kashira" (head) skewers. The "nikomi" (stew) and "namerō" (a type of fish paste) are must-orders. Visiting Daitōryō is a must when drinking in Ueno! It's consistently delicious and offers great value for money.

I visited at 5 PM and there was only one group waiting, but I was seated quickly after a short wait. I've been here several times and the food is always delicious. The atmosphere is great, and it's a must-visit for anyone coming to Ueno. The skewers are always a hit.

Motsugiyaki Daitōryō Branch. This is the place I stumbled upon when I was still young. A cool woman sitting at the counter, drinking alone on a weekend afternoon. That's when I fell in love with this place. Ever since, I always visit whenever my business trip to Tokyo includes a weekend. I look forward to visiting Ueno early and hopping around a few bars, aiming for the fat of the skewers, which sell out quickly, of course, not to mention the horse meat stew. I tend to visit the spacious branch more often than the cramped main store. Thank you always. It was delicious.

I've been keeping a low profile in my prefecture lately due to my busy schedule. So, on a day with a long weekend coming up, I headed to Ueno in Tokyo after work. I was craving yakitori and went to "Ueno Bunraku," but unfortunately, it was packed. So, I decided to try "Daido-tei," which seemed spacious and could accommodate a lot of people. This time, I went to a branch, but the main store across the street has been around since 1950, making it a very historic izakaya. They specialize in "Nikomi," a type of simmered offal. I remember visiting the main store before, and it was a great place to enjoy drinks and food at reasonable prices from morning. The main store and the branch have different atmospheres, which is a plus! The bright and lively vibe makes it easy for young women and couples to come in. Let's head inside! ( *´艸`) ---------------------------------------------- 【Daido-tei Special Nikomi】 First, let's try the Nikomi, which is Daido-tei's signature dish. Of course, the first drink on a summer day has to be beer 🍺. It's served quickly after ordering. It's a combination of horse offal, diced konjac, green onions, and tofu. The small horse offal is tender but still has a good bite. There's absolutely no offal smell. The light seasoning makes you want to keep eating. The tofu hasn't absorbed too much flavor, and it's perfect when eaten with the horse offal, creating a nice balance. I could easily finish a large bottle of beer with just this dish. 【Kashira】 The skewers are served in sets of two. They're really affordable at 90 yen per skewer. The Kashira (pork cheek) comes with green onions. It's well-grilled and has a good bite. The sweetness from the green onions and a hint of bitterness from the char are great. 【Beef Harami Skewer】 This Beef Harami Skewer (350 yen) is definitely worth repeating! The meat is juicy, fluffy, and tender. There's a slight offal smell from the harami, but the sauce is delicious!! 350 yen for two skewers is a steal ( *´艸`) You can find more details about the toppings and the restaurant on my blog, "Itolog."
