● Overview This is a traditional Asakusa shop where you can enjoy hand-crafted ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped pastry) and hand-baked senbei (rice crackers) made by skilled artisans. ● Order 'Ningyo-yaki' - ¥600 ● Crowds Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 AM. Waiting time: 10 minutes. ● Ambiance This is the ningyo-yaki shop in Asakusa with the longest line. It's fun to watch the artisans baking up close while you wait. ● Menu I ordered the ningyo-yaki. They are always freshly baked, so you get them warm. You can order in sets of 6, each with a different shape. The texture is unlike any other ningyo-yaki you've had. The thin skin encases a generous amount of sweet bean paste. The filling is made with smooth and fluffy Hokkaido Tokachi red beans, and has a sweet flavor that's addictive! I hope this traditional shop continues to thrive.
I recently went to buy some "ningyo-yaki" (a type of Japanese pastry) during the recent three-day weekend. I'm not usually a big fan of sweets, but Kameya's red bean paste has a refined sweetness that's not too overwhelming, so I could eat it endlessly. I can't stop myself. I'll definitely stop by again when I'm in the area.
I always bought my "Ningyo Yaki" (人形焼) here. It's become so popular that there are now lines, which is both exciting and a little sad. The thin-skinned "Ningyo Yaki" can last for three days if you take it home. If it's been a few days, you can reheat it in a toaster to bring back the delicious aroma. For international guests, "Ningyo Yaki" might not be familiar, but if you say "pancake with red beans", they usually understand.
【Asakusa Nakamise-dori Ningyo-yaki】 This ningyo-yaki shop has been my go-to since I was a kid. The red bean paste filling is rich and delicious, but the real connoisseurs order it without the filling. Each one is carefully hand-baked, so it's fun to watch from the side of the shop.
Why are there six for 500 yen? It's because the skin is thin and the filling is generous compared to other 3-4 pieces of人形焼き! After comparing them, I always buy them as souvenirs. Be sure to try them fresh out of the oven.
