I ordered the seasonal "Chestnut Shaved Ice." It was absolutely delicious! The shaved ice, topped with Wasanbon syrup, had a layer of chestnut paste at the bottom. This paste was pure chestnut delight, like a chestnut confection. While the shaved ice itself is a bit sad as the flavor fades with each bite, the last mouthful was the most delicious, making it a truly wonderful shaved ice experience. The service was also excellent, making for a very pleasant time. Thank you.
I had the Hinata Summer and Mikan shaved ice, which are available until the end of this month. It was refreshing and delicious on a hot day. The white bean paste went well with it. I'm also interested in the chestnut shaved ice, which is available until October 10th, so I'll try it next time.
I enjoyed my tea at the cafe attached to the shop. It's a bit pricey for a casual tea break, but the quality is worth the price. The yokan set is suitable for children. The kuzumochi is delicious even in winter. It turns white quickly, so it's best to eat it as soon as possible. The awa zenzai (with the delicious salted kelp) and anmitsu were also pleasantly sweet and refreshing.
Directly connected to Roppongi Station! I visited "Toraya Karyo Tokyo Midtown", a branch of the renowned Japanese confectionery shop "Toraya." Established over 500 years ago in the late Muromachi period in Kyoto, "Toraya" has been cherished by generations of emperors, imperial families, and historical figures like the Tokugawa shoguns. "Toraya Karyo" is a dedicated tea room where you can savor "Toraya's" traditional sweets and limited-edition treats. This "Tokyo Midtown" branch is located on the B1F of the Galleria building in the popular commercial complex "Tokyo Midtown." It opened simultaneously with the complex in March 2007. While directly connected to Roppongi Station, it's also a short walk from Nogizaka Station. The interior is simple yet sophisticated, with 32 seats primarily consisting of tables. On the left side is the "Toraya" retail section. I stopped by for a quick break during my year-end shopping. I had the "Flower Petal Cake with Matcha Ice Cream" for ¥1,760. This is a limited-time menu available from December 29th to January 15th. "Hishihanabira" (diamond-shaped petals), a traditional food eaten during the "Hagurame" ceremony, a New Year's custom where people eat hard foods to wish for longevity, was eaten from the 1st to the 3rd of January during the Heian period. This confectionery is based on the "Hishihanabira" and features a half-moon-shaped white mochi sandwiching a red "Hishi" mochi, white miso, and burdock simmered in honey. The subtle saltiness and the texture of the burdock add a nice contrast to the sweetness. The rich matcha ice cream is also a perfect pairing. This auspicious menu truly captured the New Year's spirit. If you're interested, be sure to visit soon! I'll definitely be back. Thank you for the delicious meal.
