Delicious Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki This popular restaurant is often featured on TV. I waited in line for about 30 minutes this time. I bought a ticket from the vending machine in front of the store and took a seat. They start cooking after you order, so there's a bit of a wait. I ordered the popular "Denkousekka" (Lightning Flash). The rounded, mound-like shape is so cute! It's topped with plenty of green onions. Just looking at it makes my mouth water. Inside, there's a generous amount of yakisoba! The outer crust is made with eggs, not flour, so it feels more like an omu-soba (omelet noodles) than okonomiyaki. There's also a good amount of vegetables, and the flavor is light and refreshing, not at all heavy. I was able to polish it off all by myself! ♬
Arrived at 2:13 PM on Monday, July 15, 2024. There were 11 people waiting (4, 3, 2, 2). This restaurant was selected as one of the "Tabelog 100 Best Okonomiyaki Restaurants" in 2024. First visit to Denkou Sekka Tokyo Station! The first okonomiyaki restaurant in the world to receive a Michelin star! Michelin Guide Hiroshima 2013 Bib Gourmand. Location: Tokyo Station Ichiban Gai B1F, 1-9-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo I ordered the following (including tax): - Denkou Sekka: ¥1,690 You can choose between soba (buckwheat noodles) and udon (wheat flour noodles). I chose soba. It's a 3D立体 (3D) okonomiyaki! The ingredients are pork, squid, sakura shrimp, perilla leaves, bean sprouts, cabbage, chives, green onions, and egg. The staff seemed rushed and the service was a bit rough around the edges. It felt like they were just trying to get the job done, and while it might be better under normal circumstances, it was honestly just average. The service was good. I would definitely recommend it if you have the chance! I used to frequent Denkou Sekka in Hiroshima City during my time working there, so I stopped by their Tokyo Station branch for dinner on a recent business trip. While I usually prefer the crispy style of soba like you find at Hachisho, I also enjoy the thick, fluffy okonomiyaki at Denkou Sekka! The only downside is that there are only about five counter seats, and the rest are tables. It's a shame not to be able to watch the cooking process up close. Incidentally, I was seated at the counter, and the staff seemed very apologetic, saying, "I'm sorry, but would a counter seat be alright?" I wanted to tell them that I would have happily waited for a counter seat! Perhaps due to the recent rise in cabbage prices, the amount of cabbage seemed smaller than usual. This resulted in a higher proportion of yakisoba, and the sweetness of the cabbage wasn't as noticeable, which was a bit disappointing.
Honestly, I felt the one I had in Hiroshima was better. Sorry about that. The ingredients like perilla leaves were all clumped together, not chopped up, so it was like a self-made flavor change, haha. I'm really sorry, but it was messy. Even though there were empty seats, I wasn't allowed to choose, and it was hot, so it was disappointing. I'll just eat in Hiroshima next time.
This is an okonomiyaki restaurant serving Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki located in the basement of Tokyo Station. It's always very popular and there's usually a line, but it moves pretty quickly. I waited about 20 minutes on a Sunday around 6:00 PM. The restaurant is bustling with energy, and the staff are very lively. The counter seats get quite hot, so you can't stay for too long, but it's fun to watch your okonomiyaki being cooked. The okonomiyaki was delicious with plenty of cabbage. It's a bit pricey for Tokyo Station, but considering the convenience, it's understandable.
