📍 Okame, a Traditional Japanese Sweet Shop in Yurakucho [A Hundred Famous Shops] Their ‘Ohagi’ (glutinous rice mochi) is twice the size of a regular one, making it well worth the try! [Nearest Station] JR Yurakucho Station → 1 minute walk Okame, a shop that has been selected as one of the Hundred Famous Shops, has been a renowned establishment in Yurakucho for many years. The nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere of the interior, which remains unchanged from the past, is perfect for a relaxing break after shopping. I visited on a weekend around 7 pm. It was late, so I was able to enter immediately, but the shop was full. The seating is quite close together, which is a bit of a shame. However, there are also spacious seats, so it depends on where you are seated. [Today’s Order] *All prices are inclusive of tax* ◉ Soft Shiratama Zenzai (sweet red bean soup with mochi) / Mix ¥890 ▶︎▶︎▶︎ The mix is a luxurious combination of vanilla and matcha. The soft serve ice cream has an incredibly silky texture, which is a bit different from regular soft serve, and it’s really good! The red bean paste in the zenzai is smooth and not too sweet, with a strong bean flavor. ◉ Ohagi / Sesame ¥300 ▶︎▶︎▶︎ This flavorful ohagi is fragrant with plenty of ground black sesame. It’s twice the size of a regular ohagi! It’s incredibly satisfying to eat. The mochi rice has a firm texture, not over-worked. The not-too-sweet red bean paste is incredibly delicious ⭐︎ Thank you for the meal! Ahhh…

There's always a line, but the turnover rate is fast because orders come out quickly. However, it's not a place to linger and relax after eating. The Zao Anmitsu is a generous portion of sweet beans, agar jelly, and soft serve ice cream. It's a bit on the sweet side, but not overly so, so you can easily finish it. The Shiratama Zenzai has large, satisfying mochi balls that will fill you up. Prices range from ¥800 to ¥1000 per item.

This shop was featured on TV and I had been wanting to try their delicious "ohagi" (Japanese rice cakes). The "ohagi" to go were 300 yen each. I was torn, but decided to try the cafe. It was a weekday afternoon around 3:15 pm, and there were two groups waiting, but a table became available fairly quickly. Most of the customers seemed to be elderly women. The interior had a sophisticated atmosphere with impressive beams, Matsumoto folk craft furniture, and a work by Keisuke Serizawa hanging on the wall. I was curious about the famous "Zao Anmitsu" (a dessert with soft serve ice cream), but it was cold that day, so I ordered a set of "ohagi" and "mamekanten" (bean jelly) for 840 yen. The complimentary hojicha (roasted green tea) was a nice touch. The food came out quickly. The "ohagi" was coated in kinako (roasted soybean flour), but the kinako was a bit too sweet for my taste. The "mamekanten" was delicious. There were many people waiting, so it wasn't a place to linger, but it was nice that they refilled the hojicha. I'd like to try the "Zao Anmitsu" next time. PayPay payments are accepted.

After my hair appointment on August 23, 2024, I went to "Okame", a traditional Japanese sweets shop in Yurakucho. It was my first time trying Okame, so I ordered their famous "Zao Anmitsu" (with Daishokintoki beans). The Zao Anmitsu was delicious! The soft serve ice cream melted perfectly, blending with the sweet red bean paste and agar jelly for a heavenly combination. My neighbor was enjoying some Ohagi (rice cakes), which looked absolutely mouthwatering. The Ohagi were huge! They had both red bean paste and sesame Ohagi, and it looked like they were having them for lunch. (Each Ohagi seemed as big as two convenience store onigiri.) I'm sure the Ohagi were delicious too. It was so hot out that I was worried the Ohagi would get soggy if I took them to go. I'll have to get some to go with the kids when it gets cooler in the fall. They accept PayPay. Thank you for the delicious treat! #YurakuchoGourmet #YurakuchoCafe #YurakuchoSweets #YurakuchoAnmitsu #YurakuchoItoshia #Yurakucho #ItoshiaPlaza #Okame #OkameYurakucho #GinzaGourmet #GinzaCafe #GinzaAnmitsu #GinzaRecommendation #ChuoKuGourmet #ChuoKuAnmitsu #OldSweetsShop #Anmitsu #ZaoAnmitsu #Ohagi

Delicious! The red bean paste was especially good. You can add soft serve ice cream to the shaved ice. I had a mix of matcha and vanilla, which cost around ¥1200. It's a popular shop, so there's usually a line after 1 p.m.
