This bakery cafe is located in a spacious area with a large JR ticket gate near Ueno Hirokoji-guchi. You can purchase bread and coffee, and there's a seating area where you can relax. While there are no restrooms inside the cafe, there's a relatively large restroom located in the back of the passageway next to the supermarket that sells a variety of bento boxes. Their hot sandwiches made with freshly baked bread seem to be popular. They offer a wide selection of coffee, but only one type of tea. I tried their seasonal lemonade, and while I was a bit disappointed to see them making it with concentrated lemon juice and water at the register, I decided to think positively and appreciate that it was freshly made. The lemonade comes with thick lemon slices and mint leaves as garnish. Cold drinks are served with paper straws. This cafe is a convenient spot for a quick break before your journey.
I occasionally stop by this place because their croque monsieur is incredibly delicious. It's a sandwich with ham and cheese, topped with white sauce and baked. The freshly baked one is pure bliss. 🍞 It's quite oily, so it definitely feels like you've eaten something, and while it's a bit small for the price, the satisfaction level is high. The cream cheese pie 🥧 also has layers upon layers of pastry, with air and layers overlapping, giving it a nice texture. The cream cheese is also refreshing and rich, no complaints there. It's no surprise they've been around for so long in the Ueno Station concourse. The Barigienne sandwich is based on French bread and is large, but the filling is a bit sparse, so I wasn't too impressed with that one. There are other things that look delicious, so I'd like to try them, but I can't resist the temptation of the croque monsieur.🤤
## Andersen, Atre Ueno Store Located outside the central ticket gate of Ueno Station, within the Atre shopping mall. The store is easily noticeable with its beautiful glass facade. This time, I was on a business trip on the Tohoku Shinkansen, so I bought some bread from this store to enjoy on the train. I purchased two items: a sausage and cheese bread, and a panda-shaped cream bread, which felt very Ueno-like. The store has some spacious seating, and I would have loved to relax and have a coffee there, but I was short on time. Both breads were delicious, but to be honest, they were a bit pricey compared to other bakeries. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal. **Andersen, Atre Ueno Store** 7-1-1 Ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo, Atre Ueno, Nanaban-gai 1F **Business Hours** Mon-Sun 07:30 - 22:00 **Eat-in Cafe** 7:30 - 21:00 (Last order 20:30) **Closed** Same as Atre Ueno Please note that business hours and days off may change, so please confirm with the store before visiting.
This bakery is located outside the ticket gates of JR Ueno Station. While there are highly-rated bakeries inside the station, this one's convenient location outside the gates means you don't have to go through them to buy something. It's perfect for grabbing a treat before heading to Ueno Park or the Ueno Zoo, or for picking up souvenirs on your way out of Ueno. The prices range from around ¥300 to ¥500, so if you buy two items, it can easily cost you close to ¥1,000. It's not exactly cheap. I've seen this bakery in other locations, and it seems to be positioned as a slightly upscale brand. I bought a baguette with fillings, and it was delicious! I used a payment method that earns JRE Points, which is a great perk.
I visited the cafe for eat-in around 10 am on a weekday. The place was bustling with about 80% foreign tourists, giving off a real international vibe. The bread was as delicious as always!
