Delicious!! I ordered extra vegetables and a soft-boiled egg, and I was very satisfied. The flat noodles, similar to those found in Kitakata, were amazing with the flavorful soup that came from stir-frying the vegetables. The chili oil on the table was as spicy as advertised, and a little bit was enough to satisfy me.
This is a specialty tanmen (noodle soup) restaurant located just one street back from the north exit of Kinshicho Station. I visited for a late lunch because I wanted to eat lots of vegetables. I ordered the regular tanmen with a topping of dried seaweed. It was great that the dried seaweed came on a separate plate. It was delicious to eat the vegetables and noodles while gradually adding the seaweed. Once I had eaten some, I added vinegar, which made the saltiness feel smoother and easier to eat. However, the saltiness doesn't actually decrease, so you have to be careful not to drink too much of the soup. The restaurant has a ticket machine where you buy your meal in advance, and there are only counter seats.
I visited during lunchtime on a weekday. The Tanmen ramen was ¥900. It seems like you can get a free upgrade to a large portion of vegetables, rice, half rice, or an onsen egg. I think the value for money is good! This was my second visit, and honestly, I was more concerned about the cleanliness of the store than before. The typical sticky seasonings found in ramen shops, dirty luggage storage... there was even a spider on the table... Recently, there have been more and more ramen shops that are clean and tidy, so it was a bit disappointing.
I ordered the Tanmen and Gyoza set. It's 200 yen cheaper than ordering them separately! I was happy to get free extra vegetables and rice. However, the Tanmen didn't taste like Tanmen at all. The soup was just boiled vegetable water. I had to add a ton of the table sauce to make it even remotely edible. The free rice was also disappointing, with some parts being hard and dry. I was tempted to give it one star, but the Gyoza was delicious, so I'll give it two stars!
