I'm not a regular, but luckily I was able to snag a seat at the counter. I ordered the "Dried Mackerel" for my main dish, along with "Pickled Vegetables, Cabbage", "Vinegared Dish, Octopus". I had a small bottle of Kirin beer, and warmed sake from Shiga: "Kitajima, Watarifune, 88%, Junmai Kimoto", and warmed sake from Gunma: "Gunmaizumi, Tokubetsu Junmai". The food, sake, everything was perfectly balanced and delicious.
This establishment boasts a wide selection of sake from all prefectures, from north to south, and also carries Kikumasamune's barrel-aged sake, known for its pleasant cedar aroma. Aside from sake, only bottled beer is available, with no highballs or other mixed drinks. The food is quite ordinary and the portions are small, so you won't leave feeling full. The entrance is small and the interior appears cramped, but it actually extends to three floors, with the third floor available for private bookings for groups of 8-10 people. The staff is limited, and both drinks and food can take a while to arrive, which is a drawback.
It was my first visit in a while. I arrived around the time the curtain was hung, so there were still seats available. The last time I visited, the building was still under renovation and had a unique atmosphere. I was relieved to see that the first floor layout remained the same even after the renovation.
I made a reservation and visited. I had assumed it would be a nice, casual izakaya, but it was more accurately a nice izakaya "for those who want to enjoy sake." As someone who doesn't usually drink sake, I felt a little out of place, but hey, I decided to embrace it and enjoy some sake! (laughs) Of course, there are many sake-friendly snacks. I ended up having a hot sake, Kubota from Niigata, with dried stingray fin.
I made a reservation for 6 PM on Thursday. I sat at the counter and had my sake warmed. The menu is simple, but everything is perfect for pairing with sake. This is a place for sake lovers. It's filled with 'connoisseurs' who are passionate about sake. *This is a well-known establishment among sake connoisseurs. The counter seats are a bit narrow. Reservations are recommended.
