The cozy shop was lined with affordable breads. This bakery is known for its cute, square, and plump anpan filled with fresh cream. The anpan with whole bean paste has a more distinct flavor. The bread is fluffy. Although it may get squashed, it remains moist and delicious even after some time.
A Square Asakusa Anpan, a Local Specialty? I visited "Courage," a bakery located a 5-minute walk from Asakusa Station. Arriving around 6 PM on a weekday, the shop was sparsely populated. I was able to check out quickly. I purchased an Asakusa Anpan (with bean paste) for 300 yen. The Asakusa Anpan has a fluffy bread dough, and the filling is not an-butter, but bean paste and fresh cream. An-butter is a classic, but the combination of bean paste and fresh cream is also delicious! It's a large size, so it's very satisfying. I enjoyed it all the way to the end.
It's a cute little shop. It's near my regular hotel, but I never noticed it before. I saw a brick-shaped bread that looked similar to the one sold at Tokyo Station, so I bought it on impulse. It was a bit more expensive than that one, though. It cost 300 yen per piece. They kindly put it in a refrigerated bag with a cooling pack. I also bought a curry bread. They had two varieties, one with egg and the other with cheese. The egg one was spicier, while the cheese one was sweeter. I warmed it up at home and ate it. It was crispy and delicious.
This bakery is known for its "round" (maruku) products. For my first visit, I went with the classic, anko (sweet bean paste) filled donut. The weight of it was satisfying. The filling was koshian (smooth bean paste), melting in my mouth with a fine texture. The donut's rough texture contrasted nicely with the delicate koshian, leaving a lingering taste. This bakery has a comforting atmosphere. Asakusa, a town where the new and the old coexist, is both fun and delicious. Courage, a town bakery right in the heart of Asakusa.
I stumbled upon this bakery. They highly recommend their cream-filled anpan with 'Asakusa' written on it. You can choose betweenつぶあん (tsubuan, whole bean red bean paste) andこしあん (koshian, smooth red bean paste) for 280 yen (currently 300 yen as of 6/9/2023). The cream is refreshing, and the size is generous, making it very satisfying. It was delicious! One thing to note is that the expiration date is for the same day. The other breads looked delicious too! Thank you for the meal!
