A traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Nihonbashi. It's located a 2-3 minute walk from Nihonbashi Station. It was selected as one of the Top 100 Sweets Shops in 2022. It's a very old confectionery shop with a history of over 300 years. I went there around 3:30 PM on a Saturday and there were two groups of customers ahead of me. There was a steady stream of customers coming and going. This shop is famous for its Kusu mochi, but it seemed to be sold out because it was late in the day. I had the following, mainly sugar confectionery. ✔︎ Chiyo Ball (¥2000) ✔︎ Seasonal Wagashi (¥420 each) The Chiyo Ball is another popular item at Nagato. It's a semi-moist Japanese confectionery with reduced moisture content for longer shelf life. It's called a Chiyo Ball because it has different Chiyogami (traditional Japanese paper) depending on the season. The box is filled with colorful Japanese confectionery. The inside is jelly-like because it's semi-moist. It's not just plain sugar confectionery, so it's delicious and doesn't get boring. For the seasonal wagashi, I bought Kokuu, Kasumi, and Nasu Kinton. These are also elaborate creations that reflect the season. Historical Japanese confectionery that expresses the four seasons of Japan. Thank you for the meal(^^)

This is an old-fashioned Japanese confectionery store that has been in business for 300 years. Their yokan (sweet bean jelly) is incredibly precious, as it doesn't contain any preservatives or artificial additives, making it perishable. It's a rare treat that's only available to those who make the special trip to visit. The yokan has a unique texture and a beautiful sweetness. The warabi mochi (bracken starch mochi) is elegant with its kinako (roasted soybean flour) and melts in your mouth. This time, I was lucky enough to get their affordable 'kiri yokan' (cut yokan) and warabi mochi in the afternoon. I highly recommend it!!!

A long-established Japanese confectionery shop known for its exquisite kuzumochi made with warabi starch. Highly recommended! I'm a repeat customer of their kuzumochi, and it's simply delicious. The texture is so jiggly, almost like jelly, and the sweetness is just right. I devour a whole package in no time. You can enjoy it with the generous amount of kinako (roasted soybean flour) dusted on top, or you can shake it off and eat it plain. Both ways are delicious. They often sell out, so it's best to go in the afternoon. I sometimes buy it as a gift for friends, and they always love it, which makes me happy. Apparently, the shop was founded during the era of Tokugawa Yoshimune. Enjoying my favorite kuzumochi with a cup of tea from my favorite teacup. It might just be my imagination, but there's a sense of history in this little indulgence.

Nagatomo, a long-established, renowned confectionery shop in Nihonbashi, was once a purveyor to the Tokugawa Shogun Yoshimune. With only two remaining pieces of their famous kuzumochi made with warabi starch, I gifted one to Tempura Kondo and another to Birdland, while I savored this delightful treat myself. I had the Warabi-ko Kuzu Mochi (¥900, I was able to use PayPay. 2024.5). This famous shop quietly stands in a prime location. It's only for takeout. They may sell out in the afternoon. A friendly woman will assist you. The Kuzu Mochi truly melts in your mouth. The Warabi-ko is light and slightly sticky, but the sweetness is just right, coating the Kuzu Mochi in a fluffy layer. It's delicious. Personally, I prefer a light dusting of Warabi-ko. A large amount can absorb too much moisture. The quality is high, yet it's only ¥900 per bag, making it a great souvenir to bring when visiting. The recipients usually say it's 'delicious,' so I highly recommend it.
