This summer, I went on an 'anmitsu' (Japanese dessert) tour in Tokyo. A few days before visiting this place, I got an anmitsu to go atecute Ueno. It was so delicious that I wanted to eat it at the shop, so I visited on the last day of my trip. The fruit was thick-cut, and the balance of the anmitsu's agar jelly, red bean paste, and soft serve ice cream was perfect. It was so delicious. I wanted to buy some to go, but since it was summer and I was going back south, I gave up. Even now, I sometimes talk to my family about how much I want 'Mihashi's anmitsu.' The staff were also very kind, and their uniforms were retro and lovely.
It's conveniently located right below the station. There are often lines, but the turnover seems fast, so I think the wait time is surprisingly short. That said, it's not ideal for those who want to enjoy a sweet treat and chat leisurely. It's best to eat quickly and leave promptly. The anmitsu's koshian (red bean paste) is smooth and has a gentle sweetness. It's no wonder it has so many fans. I was delighted to receive two extra mochi balls as a service with my museum ticket. I was drawn to the store's original insulated bag.
Wandering around Ueno Zoo, I was exhausted and the heat had me feeling flushed. It was almost 6 pm, and normally I'd be looking for an early dinner, but I'd already had both curry and ramen for lunch, so I wasn't very hungry. Considering this, I decided to indulge in a generous serving of 'anmitsu' and entered the shop. It was my first time at 'Mihashi'. Looking in from the outside, it seemed incredibly popular, and I thought to myself, 'It must be a beloved local spot in Ueno.' This was promising! I was excited. I splurged and ordered the fruit cream anmitsu for 980 yen. It was delicious, as expected. But I thought it could have been a bit colder. The panda stuffed animals in the interior decor were also charming and cute.
I enjoyed the fruit cream anmitsu. I was happy to get two extra mochi balls with my zoo ticket. It was the first day, and I had to wait in line for a while, arriving around 3:15 PM. If you're coming by train, it's best to give yourself some extra time. The turnover wasn't bad, though, and my turn came up while I was chatting. The mochi balls were soft and delicious. Thank you for the meal!
After visiting the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, I was craving something sweet to soothe my tired feet. It's always a treat to get two free mochi balls with a ticket to Ueno Zoo or the museum. This time, since it was autumn, I opted for the chestnut cream anmitsu. The sweetness was just right, the chestnuts were large, and I was completely satisfied. The red bean paste was also fantastic! I highly recommend the cream anmitsu even in winter.
