A long-established Japanese confectionery shop. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon around 2 pm. There was no wait. As it's a long-established shop founded in 1884, the interior has a good, nostalgic Showa era atmosphere, as if it's been preserved from the time of its founding. I bought a box of three "Golden Potatoes," their specialty, for ¥690. I thought it would contain sweet potato since it said "potato," but it was mainly made with white beans. It had a gentle sweetness and a faint scent of cinnamon, a delicate Japanese confectionery flavor. Apparently, it's called "Golden Potato" because it looks just like a potato. It's cute. I'll definitely stop by again when I visit Suitengu Shrine.

Visited in March 2023. Please note that the menu and prices may differ from the current ones due to the time difference in posting. I visited in the evening as the sun was setting. The warm glow of the lights emanating from the historic building was truly inviting. I was amazed to learn that it has been in business for 140 years! I purchased a few boxes of the 3-piece Golden Sweet Potato, their signature item, as a souvenir, and couldn't resist picking up a single piece of their fresh confectionery. The seasonal confectionery was so chewy and delicious! The Golden Sweet Potato, though it looks like a sweet potato, doesn't actually contain any potato. It's said to be a playful Edo-era twist, where a luxurious cinnamon confection was presented as a humble sweet potato. Interestingly, I was tricked into thinking I was eating a sweet potato! The combination of the egg yolk filling and the cinnamon aroma was perfect. From the interior furnishings to the paper bags and shopping bags, everything was simply exquisite!

May 2024 This confectionery shop has been around since the Meiji era. I decided to visit since I had some time. The building and interior have a charming atmosphere, and the staff who served me were very polite and kind. I bought the famous Golden Sweet Potato and the Gluten Dumpling. I ate the Golden Sweet Potato at home, and although it doesn't use actual sweet potato, it perfectly replicates the taste of sweet potato. The cinnamon flavor is excellent. The Gluten Dumpling is soft and the sweet bean paste is delicate. I think it would be a good gift for any occasion.

I stumbled upon this charming Japanese confectionery shop while walking around. The seasonal sweets were lovely, but I was truly impressed by the deliciousness of the 'fu-manju' (gluten dumpling). The mochi-like, light texture of the dumpling, infused with the aroma of bamboo leaves, enveloped a sweet, smooth red bean paste filling. It was so good, I devoured it in an instant.

Visited in March 2024. This shop is located near Suitengu Shrine, on Ningyocho Street between Suitengu Shrine-mae Station and Ningyocho Station. It's easy to spot with its long hanging curtain. I visited shortly before closing time, so the seasonal sweets (sakura mochi during my visit) were sold out. Their famous Golden Sweet Potato is also available for individual purchase at 260 yen each. It's a traditional confection that makes you want to say "nikki" rather than "cinnamon." The combination of white bean paste and nikki is incredibly delicious! I enjoy it at home with tea or coffee. While I love eating it as is, warming one Golden Sweet Potato in the microwave for 20 seconds at 500 watts makes it even softer and changes the texture, which I find interesting (I do this on my own).
