I had lunch at a long-established Chinese restaurant near Harajuku Station that recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. Upon entering, the atmosphere was surprisingly tranquil, a stark contrast to the bustling streets of Harajuku. The first floor serves as a waiting area, while the restaurant itself is located in the basement. As I descended the escalator, I was greeted by a staff member who had been alerted by an intercom. The spacious dining area featured comfortable four-seater tables, and we were served tea in a pot. I opted for the meat option from the 'South Seas Lunch' menu. The meal was accompanied by a delightful dessert, and the attentive service added to the overall experience. The spacious setting provided a sense of calm, and the refreshing citrus dessert was a perfect ending to the meal. I found the price to be very reasonable for the quality and ambiance. The clientele consisted mainly of mature individuals, with a significant number of solo diners, making it a comfortable and welcoming environment.
A venerable Chinese restaurant in Harajuku. I had known about its existence for a long time, but I never had the chance to visit until now. The lunch course is around 5,000 yen, with many dishes, excellent service, and considering it's in Harajuku, it's actually quite reasonable. After waiting for a bit at the front entrance on the first floor, I was escorted to the basement. There are quite a few private rooms besides the main dining area, and that day, there was even a room being used for a company presentation. Once seated, I was treated to attentive service and a steady stream of delicious dishes. On weekdays, the restaurant is bustling with lively senior citizens, making me wish I could have such a fulfilling retirement.
We used this restaurant to celebrate my adult daughter's birthday. It had a traditional Chinese cuisine feel, and each dish was carefully prepared. Even my elementary school-aged grandchildren enjoyed it. The service was excellent, and we had a wonderful time. The air conditioning was a bit too strong, making it a little chilly.
Located just a minute's walk from Harajuku Station and Meiji Jingu Station, the restaurant boasts a spacious and luxurious waiting area on the first floor where you can browse the menu while awaiting your table. You are then escorted to the restaurant located in the basement. The service is impeccable, and every dish is delicious.
Of all the dim sum I tried, the steamed pork buns were the best. The skin was so fluffy and light, it was a whole different level compared to the pre-made ones you find elsewhere. I highly recommend them!
