The legendary "original curry bread" shop, "Katsura", is a true neighborhood bakery located a short distance south of the Morishita intersection. It's been about 10 years since my last visit, and it's amazing how the exterior hasn't changed at all. The interior is just as impressive, with bread neatly arranged, exuding a sense of cleanliness. I purchased a croissant (¥216), the original curry bread (¥281), and the spicy curry bread (¥292). I have a vague feeling I bought the same things 10 years ago... I brought them home and lightly warmed them in the toaster, resulting in a crispy exterior. The long one is the "original curry bread" and the round one is the "spicy curry bread." While the spicy curry bread is also very well-balanced, the original curry bread's quality is undeniable. The subtle curry flavor and the sweetness of the vegetables are perfectly balanced. It's a masterpiece. The croissant was a bit small, but it had a restrained sweetness and a simple, refreshing flavor. Next time, I think I'll get three curry breads.

This is the original curry bread shop. Katorea's predecessor was "Meika-do", which was founded in 1877 in Fukagawa Tokiwacho. In 1927, it was registered as a utility model under the name "Western-style bread", which is said to be the origin of "curry bread". The shop is located right on Kiyosumi-dori Street, just outside Exit A7 of Morishita Station on the Toei Oedo Line. The curry bread is usually ready at 7:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 3:00 PM. It can get crowded during these times, but there might still be some left near closing time. I passed by the shop on Thursday of the second week of September, just before closing time, and saw a sign that said "Curry bread available", so I bought three. It's delicious even when it's cold, but it says that heating it in the microwave for 30-40 seconds and then in the toaster oven for about 2 minutes will make it crispy and taste like it's freshly fried. Their melon bread and cream bread are also delicious. Only cash payments are accepted.

I visited "Katsura", located right next to Morishita Station, to buy breakfast and lunch. Since I was working remotely that day, I bought bread from here early in the morning. The wide variety of savory bread made choosing fun. I wanted to try as many different kinds as possible. This bakery is widely known as the birthplace of "curry bread", and I bought a few of their "Original Curry Bread" and "Spicy Curry Bread", which I was looking forward to. I also bought "Fukagawa Anpan", "Asparagus Bacon Danish", "Pizza Toast", "Cream Bread", and "Mushroom Dog". The curry bread was delicious, as expected! This curry bread was born in 1927. The crispy fried crust encases a rich curry roux made with ground pork, carrots, and onions, with a nice kick of spice. It was delicious. The curry bread has a designated baking time, and you can buy freshly baked bread at 7:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 3:00 PM. The cream bread is apparently the most popular, and the moderately sweet cream was simply divine. The Fukagawa Anpan also had a refined sweetness, and the other breads were surprisingly delicious. #Katsura #KatsuraCurryBread #OriginalCurryBread #CurryBread #BirthplaceOfCurryBread #MorishitaGourmet #MorishitaLunch #MorishitaDinner #MorishitaBread #MorishitaBakery #Morishita #Breadstagram #KuboYuEatWalkReview #KuboYu

The Origin of Curry Bread! A Tale of [Place Name]. **Visit:** Weekday, 1:20 PM **Order:** * Original Curry Bread (¥281) * Salt Bread (¥151) **Original Curry Bread** It is said that the "Western-style bread" created in 1927, during the time when the bakery was called [Place Name], is the origin of the current curry bread. The curry has a gentle flavor with a sweetness from the onions and carrots, and the bread is also sweet, making it understandable why it's popular with children. Someone who was in the store at the same time as me bought about 20 of them... ! lol. There's also a spicy version, so it's recommended for those who like spicy food! **Salt Bread** A simple, classic salt bread. The dough is fluffy and the bottom is crispy with butter. It has a gentle flavor that goes well with meals. It's a great value for a hundred-year-old store! I'm happy to have found a place that's easy on the wallet. I'll definitely visit again when I'm in the neighborhood. ✨

I visited this place for takeout on a weekend afternoon. It's said to be the birthplace of the curry bread in Koto-ku, near Morishita Station. I got the following: * Genzo Curry Bread (¥280) * Ama-gashi (¥97) The famous "Genzo Curry Bread" has a crispy, golden-brown crust that encases a surprisingly generous amount of curry filling. The spice level is mild, with a pleasant sweetness from the vegetables. If you prefer something spicier, they also offer a spicy version, which I recommend. The Ama-gashi I bought for dessert was a simple, nostalgic treat that paired perfectly with my brewed coffee. ^^
