The pastry shop at the Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel is a hidden gem in the heart of Shibuya. The interior has a calming atmosphere, offering a tranquil escape from the bustling city. The selection of sweets is extensive, with chocolate cakes and cookies being particularly exquisite. The rich chocolate flavor and the crispy texture are a perfect match, making it a must-try for those with a sweet tooth. Seasonal fruit desserts are also not to be missed. The sweetness and tartness of fresh fruit enhance the delicate flavors of the sweets. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, providing detailed explanations when you're unsure about which sweets to choose. They answer questions with a smile, making it a comfortable experience even for first-time visitors. The only minor drawback is that the shop feels a bit cramped. During peak hours, you might have to wait a bit, but it's definitely worth it. Overall, the pastry shop at the Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel is a wonderful place that offers high-quality sweets and excellent service. It deserves a 4-star rating and is a perfect spot for a sweet treat in Shibuya. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
Located on the lobby floor of the Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel, a towering skyscraper along National Route 246, just a 5-minute walk from Shibuya Station, is the 'Pastry Shop' adjacent to the Garden Kitchen 'Carmela'. Here, you'll find a selection of pastries, breads, and baked goods crafted by our pastry and baker chefs. Our pastry chefs recommend seasonal cakes, and we offer a variety of other options, including cakes made with carefully selected seasonal ingredients that highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients. We also have a wide selection of hotel breads, baked fresh every morning with meticulous care by our baker chefs, using only the finest ingredients.
I was tempted by the cakes in the display case, but I ended up buying two 'fool's sec' (a traditional Japanese sweet) and a canelé for myself. I can't comment on the taste of the 'fool's sec' since they were for souvenirs, but the canelé was delicious! It was a bit larger than the usual size. This allowed me to fully enjoy the crispy exterior and chewy interior. The subtle hint of alcohol was also pleasant, making it enjoyable even for someone like me who doesn't drink. They seem to be taking reservations for a carp streamer cake for the upcoming season. The picture looked incredibly cute and delicious!
The appearance is good, the taste is good, but the price is high. I bought this cake for a birthday celebration with friends, at the request of the girls in the group. Everything is just so expensive. The taste is good, I think, but it's a bit more mature, or maybe even adult-oriented. I don't know much about sweets, so this is just my personal opinion, but for this price, there are other cake shops with better cakes. Well, everyone was happy, so I guess it's okay.
I revisited Carême after years because I couldn't forget the delicious Danish pastries I had at their morning buffet. While they no longer offer the buffet, you can still buy their bread and cakes. I expected the prices to be on par with a hotel bakery, but they were surprisingly affordable and easy on the wallet! Danish pastries start at just 205 yen. My workplace is nearby, so I find myself buying their bread often. The chocolate Danish and almond Danish are my favorites. Today, I saw a new hard bread with sausage and macadamia nuts. It had a sweet and savory flavor with a honey glaze. I intended to just try a bite, but it disappeared in an instant before I could even reheat it. It was the best bread I've had this year! Their quiche and meat pies are also highly recommended, with their rich buttery flavor. As for the cakes, the Paris Brest they had last year was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, it's not available this year (Fall/Winter 2021). I'm planning to try their cream puffs next time. While the cakes are priced like those found in hotels, the bread is high quality and low priced. Honestly, I can't imagine going to any other bakery in Shibuya. I wish more people knew about this hidden gem!
